Occultation of Uranus by Moon
March 7, 2022
The moon passes in front of Uranus about once per month this year. For those of us who are not located in the right place to see the occultation, we can view the planet near the moon. Uranus is barely visible to the naked eye and will be difficult to see in the vicinity of a very bright moon. However, you may be able to see the planet through binoculars a few hours before or after the occultation. For astronomers looking to view Uranus for the first time, the moon will make a very good pointer to the planet.
Occultation hunters in the South Pacific, including parts of Australia and New Zealand, will be able to witness this month’s event. Other viewers will see the moon pass near Uranus without obscuring the planet.
