Great North American Eclipse April 8 2024.
April 8, 2024
This is the next great opportunity for eclipse watchers to see a total solar eclipse in North America. The next opportunity will not occur until 2045. This path of totality starts in the South Pacific Ocean and makes landfall in Mexico near Mazatlan. The path of totality traverses North America on a northeasterly path, traversing the United States and passing through Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, New York, Vermont, and Maine.
At points near the center of the path of totality, the duration of totality will be more than 4 minutes which is nearly twice as long as the duration of totality for the August 21, 2017 eclipse. Carbondale, Illinois will have the distinction of being in the path of totality for both the 2017 and 2024 Eclipse.
